The following are some facts about the success of the Department of Health (DOH) Health Trainer Service in the UK and are taken from the Health Trainer Data Collection and Reporting System (DCRS) Updated National Report - February 2009.
- The majority of clients (70%) are referred via GP services.
- Most clients (20% referred) come from the most deprived areas.
- Most clients (total of 39%) are in the age range from 36-55, although there is a relatively even distribution of access to the Health Trainer Programme across the lifespan. This indicates that positive health behaviour change is taking place at an age where prevention/management of longer-term chronic conditions (such as diabetes) can be achieved.
- Based on before and after results the Health Trainer service is showing clear and consistent improvements in client self-efficacy.
