Strengthening Communities in Sharrow

Sharrow Hub

This project proposed the creation of a new community hub on part of the Old Junior School site, to house a new library, CAB, office space and community groups. However the recession has made this project less viable and in December 2010 Sheffield City Council Cabinet decided not to proceed with the building of a new hub at this point.

Sheffield City Council undertook public consultation at the end of November 2009 in order to inform the Cabinet report. SCF gathered nearly 200 responses to the consultation by knocking on over 1500 doors and Sharrow CAB added questions to their annual user survey. The consultation leaflet can been accessed from here

The Cabinet report (click here for a copy) proposes that the new hub will not go ahead but that the Old Junior School might be retained as a mixed use site with community facilities. Further consultation is planned for January 2011 before a formal route forward is agreed.

SCF has invested 5 years of work into the Sharrow Programme, which the hub is part of. This has resulted in the new Sharrow Primary School, the revamped Mount Pleasant Park, and the Lowfield MyPlace plans. SCF believes that the re-use of the Sharrow Junior school site to include a new building to house the library and CAB would benefit local people by supporting better services.
